Cyprus seeks quiet conversation over gunboat diplomacy in Mediterranean

SHARE Close co-operation on the Mediterranean is needed to tackle common threats, with quiet mediation preferable to gunboat diplomacy, Cypriot Foreign Minister Nikos said on a visit to Abu Dhabi this week. But, he added, Turkey must respect Cyprus’s territorial integrity in disputed waters. “This is a prerequisite for any kind of co-operation with Turkey. But we believe that only diplomacy and negotiations can solve our problems. We can’t change geography,” he said. Speaking in an exclusive interview with The National, Mr Christodoulides pointed to deepening ties between Cyprus and its Middle East neighbours to tackle security threats in the region.

Turkey Neutralizes 8 PKK Terrorists In N.Syria YPG/PKK terrorists were trying to infiltrate Euphrates Shield and Peace Spring operation areas, says Turkish Defense Ministry. Turkish security forces neutralized a total of eight YPG/PKK terrorists in northern Syria, the Turkish National Defense Ministry said on Friday. In a Twitter post, the ministry said three terrorists were trying to infiltrate the Operation Euphrates Shield zone, south of Turkey s border. As in the [Operation] Peace Spring region, we will not allow any attacks and infiltration attempts in the [Operation] Euphrates Shield zone, it said. Separately, five more terrorists were trying to infiltrate the Operation Peace Spring zone, the ministry said on Twitter.
