Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Afghanistan and Turkey on Monday, Afghan Foreign Minister Haneef Atmar said that Turkey has had a key role in the country’s reconstruction and joint counter-terrorism efforts post-2001.
Addressing an event to mark the occasion Atmar said he hopes Turkey will maintain its sincere cooperation with the peace efforts in Afghanistan.
“As we celebrate the centennial of the establishment of our diplomatic relations, we wish to further develop our cooperation in every aspect in this special year; hope that the ongoing violence in Afghanistan comes to an end and lasting peace and calm will prevail in the country,” Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
Celebrating 100 Years of Turkish-Afghan Diplomatic Relations
Today marks the centennial anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkey and Afghanistan. Ankara Government was officially recognized today by Afghanistan through the Treaty of Alliance signed on 1 March 1921. I use the term “Ankara Government”, because Turkey is founded in 1923, and in preceding years, Turkey was being ruled in practice by the Turkish Grand National Assembly under Ataturk’s leadership, which we call Parliamentary Government or Ankara Government.
In order to celebrate 1 March as the Turkish-Afghan Friendship Day every year, the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs have signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Istanbul on 24 December 2010.

Introduction
The Turkish Grand National Assembly has promulgated the Act on the Prevention of the Financing of Propagation of Weapons of Mass Destruction (7262), published in the
Official Gazette (31351) on 31 December 2020, which foresees material amendments to the Commercial Code s provisions regarding bearer share certificates. Although these amendments may seem misplaced, they are the result of long deliberation and deep international cooperation. The act aims to implement the United Nations Security Council s measures on this matter.
Key points
The amendments include the following.
The Ministry of Trade may oblige that the share ledger, the board of directors resolution book and the book of the general assembly meeting and discussion be kept electronically – without prejudice to the Capital Markets Law (6362).
