Tpr. Mark Fletcher was named the 2020 International Association of Chiefs of Police/Motorola Solutions Trooper of the Year, according to a news release Thursday. “We are proud to honor Trooper Fletcher as the 2020 Trooper of the Year for his courageous actions and selfless commitment to his fellow officers,” Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said. “Trooper Fletcher has served the people of Michigan honorably and embodies the qualities of a true public servant.”

State Police Graduate New Troopers

March 14, 2021 There are now 55 new Michigan State Police troopers ready to serve the state. Michigan State Police say graduation has been held for the 138th Trooper Recruit School as the graduates prepare to head off to their assigned posts. Of the 55, two are coming to southwest Michigan, both to the Paw Paw post. Trooper Oliver Fiala is from Cassopolis and Trooper Kalvin Ludwig is from Three Rivers. MSP Lieutenant DuWayne Johnson tells WSJM News these new troopers went through about six months of training. “They learn patrols, stops, firearms training, water safety training, first aid, interview techniques,” Robinson said. “They get into some forensic type training where they learn how to collect DNA and take fingerprints and things like that.”

He likes a challenge and wanted what he thought was the best training. But there were some things he wasn’t prepared for when he decided to join and go through six months of intense physical and academic training. “It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life,” he said. On March 4, Nocifora was among 55 troopers that graduated from MSP s 138th Trooper Recruit School. The trooper recruit school began in September 2020 at the MSP Training Academy in Lansing. Recruits were trained in firearms, water safety, defensive tactics, patrol techniques, report writing, ethics, cultural diversity and implicit bias, decision making, leadership, first aid, criminal law and more.
