WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AFP) Donald Trump may soon be dislodged from Washington, but to core supporters in southern Florida he remains an unquestionable hero, their favorite occasional local, whose Mar-a-Lago presence draws global attention to Palm Beach.
The brash Republican is on his final holiday trip to his private club as president, inconveniencing some neighbors who find the area’s roads blocked as he shuttles between the “Southern White House” and his Trump International Golf Club.

PALM BEACH (Florida), Dec 28 The US government headed toward a chaotic last few days of the year as President Donald Trump’s refusal to approve a US$2.3 trillion financial package caused millions of jobless Americans to lose benefits and threatened to shut down federal agencies due to lack of funding.
Trump, who leaves office on Jan. 20 after losing November’s election, came under pressure yesterday from lawmakers on both sides to stop blocking the pandemic aid and government funding bill which was approved by Congress last week.

US President Donald Trump has signed a massive bill that includes US$1.4 trillion to fund government agencies through September, a US$900 billion COVID-19 pandemic relief package and other end-of-session priorities such as an increase in food stamp benefits.
The signing on Sunday, at his private club in Florida, came amid escalating criticism over his 11th-hour refusal to accept a bipartisan deal that would deliver long-sought cash to businesses and individuals ,as well as avert a shutdown of the federal government.
The bill had passed the US House of Representatives and Senate by wide margins.
