The first doses of a COVID-19 vaccine to be distributed in eastern Oregon arrived in Ontario Tuesday morning and more are expected throughout the week and over the course of the next several weeks. They will be stored at Saint Alphonsus Medical Center-Ontario. Oregon Health Authority reported that the hospital was one of five locations throughout the state to receive 975-dose packages of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine on Monday and Tuesday.
âBecause the vaccine requires the ultra-cold storage, distribution to rural communities will be challenging, but not impossible, said Dr. Steven Nemerson, chief clinical officer for Saint Alphonsus Health System. âThe Pfizer vaccine can be safely transported in dry ice, and then stored in regular freezers or refrigeration for up to 5 days.â

Since the pandemic began, there have been 1,214 deaths and 96,092 confirmed cases. State says lagging indicator relates to cause of death on death certificates
PORTLAND, Ore. (KTVZ) COVID-19 has claimed a record 54 more lives in Oregon, raising the state’s death toll to 1,214, along with 1,129 new cases, the Oregon Health Authority reported Tuesday. The agency said a lag in processing death certificates contributed to the record.
OHA reported 1,129 new confirmed and presumptive cases of COVID-19 as of 12:01 a.m. Tuesday bringing the state total to 96,092 cases and 2,208,399 negative test results. Today’s record-high death toll tragically reminds us that the pandemic is far from over despite the arrival of vaccines in Oregon, said OHA Director Patrick Allen. First Oregon healthcare workers receive COVID-19 vaccinations
Governor Kate Brown, state health officials, and hospitals in the Portland area streamed live as the first few healthcare workers received doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.

PORTLAND, Ore. Governor Kate Brown, state health officials, and hospitals in the Portland area streamed live on Wednesday morning as the first few healthcare workers received doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. The first shipments of the vaccine arrived in-state on Monday, and are now being distributed to medical providers around the state.
Legacy Health and Oregon Health & Science University in Portland and Saint Alphonsus Medical Center on the Oregon-Idaho border are among those that began vaccinating staff Wednesday.
