N.J. man in critical condition after shooting

A Passaic County man was in critical condition after being shot Friday night in Paterson, officials said.
Just before 9 p.m. Friday, Paterson police officers responded to 9th Avenue and Madison Avenue in the city for a reported robbery, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said in a statement. When officers arrived, they found a 31-year-old city man suffering from a non-fatal gunshot wound, according to the statement.
The man, whose name was not released, was taken to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, and is in critical condition as of late Saturday morning, according to the statement.

A man who was shot Tuesday evening in Paterson died from his injuries Wednesday, authorities said.
Bryan Vargas, 19, of Paterson was pronounced dead at 4:46 p.m. at Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson where he had been listed in critical condition the day before, according to a statement from the Paterson Police Department and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.
Vargas was shot just before 5:30 p.m. while outside a home at 89 Jefferson Street in a residential area of the city, police said.
Firefighter injured in four-alarm blaze that collapsed building roof

A firefighter was injured by falling debris while battling a four-alarm blaze in Passaic County early Thursday morning, authorities said.
At 4:10 a.m. Thursday, Passaic City firefighters rushed to rescue residents of a 4th Avenue building when they arrived to find people hanging out of the window, said Fire Chief Patrick Trentacost. As firefighters made their way to the second and third floor, they encountered heavy fire and some firefighters were forced back out by the flames, he said.
As the firefighters backed out due to a fire in the small attic loft area, one of the firefighters working in the back of the building was hit by brick and debris, said Trentacost. The firefighter was treated by the EMS for a cut to his head and face before he was taken to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, he said.
N.J. man killed in Paterson motorcycle crash

A 29-year-old Passaic County man was killed in a motorcycle crash in Paterson on Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
Jonathan Medina, of Paterson, was killed Sunday afternoon when the Honda motorcycle he was driving collided with a Dodge hatchback in the city, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said in a statement. It was not clear if any summons had been issued or were forthcoming.
At 3:22 p.m. Sunday, Paterson Police responded to a crash at the intersection of East 7th Avenue and Wood Street, where they found a crash between Medina’s motorcycle and the hatchback, the statement aid. Medina was taken to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center and pronounced dead less than an hour later, the statement said.
