‘It’s All About Our Individual Behavior For The Month Of January,’ Health Officials Warn
Some frontline personnel received their first dose of the Modera COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday, including staff with REMSA and members of the Nevada National Guard who have been a part of the state’s COVID-19 response. But officials argue we won’t see an impact on the current cases until much later.
Statewide, 76% of adult ICU beds are occupied. And that’s a cause for concern in Washoe County, where about half of the ICU beds are occupied by patients with confirmed or suspected COVID-19.

The @pfizer vaccine has arrived here in Maine and @NorthernLightH officials say it received 975 doses that will be going to frontline workers first. The Mainers getting the first vaccines will be front line workers who are most likely to come in contact with a COVID-19 positive patient. These vaccines will be done in phases so not everyone in one department gets it at once in case mild side effects cause employees to be out of work for a few days.

Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center is extending its postponement of some elective surgeries as COVID-19 continues to threaten hospital capacity.
The Reno hospital initially announced on Dec. 2 that it was postponing some surgeries for two weeks, citing “capacity challenges” from the pandemic. Washoe County is in the midst of a surge in COVID cases, with November breaking multiple records for case counts and deaths. Area medical centers also raised alarms in early November that hospital capacity in Reno, Sparks and Carson City is “on the verge of being overwhelmed.”
Earlier this month, Saint Mary’s described the postponement of some surgeries as a necessary step to ensure that it can continue to provide care to the community.

A FedEx truck pulled into the Washoe County Health District’s parking lot first thing in the morning, greeted by a sidewalk crowded with the press.
It wasn’t a grand entrance of any sort. The 3,900 doses fit neatly into one box with an eye-catching bright pink label that read, “Priority Boarding.” This box was carefully placed on a dolly and rolled into the health district nine months into the pandemic.
James English is with the health district. He said the arrival of the vaccine provided some relief.
“There’s been a lot of anxiety because there’s a lot of what-ifs, you don t know when it’s coming, we did not know when it [was] coming,” English said.
