On April 5, 2021, Chief Circuit Judge William A. Mudge was unanimously elected by his fellow Circuit Judges as Chief Judge of the Third Judicial Circuit for another two year term. He was first elected Chief Judge in 2019 and his new term will begin June 7, 2021. Madison and Bond counties comprise the Third Judicial Circuit.
Judge Mudge was in private practice in Edwardsville for 16 years before serving 8 years as Madison County State’s Attorney from 2002 to 2010; was first elected Circuit Judge in 2010 and retained in 2016. Mudge tells The Big Z he still gets excited about the job.
Tishaura Jones has made history as the first Black woman elected mayor in the city of St. Louis, Missouri. Jones reportedly received more than 51 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s election. She is slated to be sworn in on April 20.
“St. Louis, this is an opportunity for us to rise,” Jones told voters in a victory speech that detailed her ancestral heritage and quoted poet Maya Angelou. “I told you when I was running that we aren’t done avoiding tough conversations. We are done ignoring the racism that has held our city and our region back.”
Jones, 49, is described as a champion for working families who has spent her career serving the people of Missouri.

Tishaura Jones became the first Black woman elected mayor of St. Louis on Tuesday and later this month will begin leading a city racked with a high homicide rate, disturbances at the city jail and challenges related to the pandemic.

EDWARDSVILLE William A. Mudge was unanimously re-elected Monday by his fellow circuit judges as Chief Judge of the Third Judicial Circuit for another two year term.
Mudge was first elected chief judge in 2019 for the Third Judicial Circuit which includes Madison and Bond counties. His new term will begin June 7.
“I am gratified that my colleagues have selected me to continue to serve in this role,” he said. “The past year has been trying and difficult due to the pandemic. The circuit and associate judges of the Third Judicial Circuit have stepped up to meet the challenges wrought by COVID.
