The Michigan High School Athletics Association updated its member schools on revised pandemic guidelines for high school winter sports on Monday.
EAST LANSING The Michigan High School Athletics Association updated its member schools on revised pandemic guidelines for high school winter sports on Monday.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services released the new guidelines on its website late Sunday.
The new guidelines cover attendance limits, mask and social distancing requirements and testing COVID-19 procedures for certain student-athletes.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the MDHHS announced Feb. 4 that winter contact sports would be allowed to resume on Feb. 9. Changes to the current pandemic order cleared the way for sports to restart.
Benzie Central band going ahead with winter concert

BENZONIA Benzie Central Schools band students will still be putting on a performance in person for close friends and family.
Benzie s winter band concert will be held on Feb. 18, with separate performances from each band. The sixth-grade band will be performing at 6 p.m., the middle school band will be performing at 7 p.m. and the high school symphonic band will be performing at 8 p.m.
Doors will be open 20 minutes prior to each performance.
Each performance will be streamed live on the Benzie Central Middle and High School Facebook pages.

In the race to get people immunized in the U.S., pharmacists made a key discovery that vials of Pfizer s covid-19 vaccine contain an extra dose. Extracting that extra bit of vaccine, however, hinges upon the availability of a specialized syringe that is in short supply.
When a medication or vaccine is injected, some amount of it can linger in the syringe in what s known as the dead space between the plunger and needle. Low-dead space syringes are designed to minimize that, and with it, waste. That makes them a crucial tool in extracting six doses, instead of the five that were expected, from each Pfizer vial.
NORRISTOWNÂ â Nearly 3,000 Montgomery County renters impacted financially by the COVID-19 pandemic will soon find some relief as officials authorized more than $24 million in federal funding for the Montgomery County Federal Emergency Rental Assistance Program.
âWeâre extremely excited to offer this crucial assistance during the pandemic,â said Kayleigh Silver, senior manager of housing and homeless services at the Montgomery County Office of Housing and Community Development.
The $24,758,714 was sourced from the Federal Emergency Rental Assistance Program.

State, county and municipal governments with populations of over 200,000 peopleâ are eligible recipients of the federal funding, according to the resolution passed by the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners.

There were 16 new coronavirus cases and no deaths reported in the Upper Thumb since Saturday, according to the state.
On the state report Feb. 8, Huron County saw a two-day increase of three coronavirus cases, bringing the region to 1,572 confirmed cases and 51 deaths.
Tuscola County saw the region s largest increase of nine cases, bringing the county to 2,732 confirmed cases and 121 deaths.
Sanilac County saw an increase of four cases, bringing the county to 1,741 confirmed cases and 69 deaths.
