Boulton’s parents had donated to the construction of the White Horse in 1968 which was laid in concrete slabs over a three month period, costing $240 at the time according to Waimate.org.nz. Boulton said he could remember when the sculpture’s instigator Norman Hayman approached his parents, who were farmers in the Waimate district, about making a donation.
