The Government’s plan to improve the quality of infrastructure supplying water services to households and businesses may have hit a snag, with a warning that the plan could cost more than anticipated. That warning has come from the Local Government Funding Agency or LGFA, the organisation that manages borrowing for most councils in New Zealand. It comes after the Department of Internal Affairs made an upward revision to what it thinks may need to be invested in water infrastructure over the next 40 years, which now sits at $120 billion to $185 billion, having previously been $110b-$170b.
