The gun has been fired on the race to become one of just eight projects in Laois that will get a share of more than €1 million that is potentially available for renewal projects.
In a change to the Town and Village Renewal Scheme, one project in Laois will get €500,000 toward the cost of a large project - more than double what the highest cost project would have got in previous years.

The Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, has today (Monday, May 3rd) announced â¬15 million in funding to help revitalise rural towns and villages post Covid-19.

A €1.2 million fund aimed at backing innovative projects that empower young people and adults through education and enabling people from marginalised communities to access game-changing education programmes was launched today.
This is the second phase of the Fund, which will run over the next three years, and is now officially open for applications until June 2. An initial investment of €450,000 from 2017 -2019 supported eleven inspiring projects across 10 counties in Ireland with financial and mentoring support. As a result, these charities reached 5,725 participants and mobilised 1,305 volunteers. This second phase is now worth €1.2 m
Clare County Council have received approval to proceed with construction works at Vandeleur Walled Garden in Kilrush.
Additional funding support of €250,819 from the Department of Rural & Community Development has been made available bringing the overall Department funding to €1,975,819.
The project is funded by the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund, Project Ireland 2040 under the Department of Rural and Community Development with match funding by Clare County Council. The news came following Clare County Councils application to proceed with the scope of works tendered and a request for additional funding to address accessibility and other ancillary costs within the existing Centre.
The tendering process was completed in 2020 and Custy Construction ltd have been appointed to carry out the works. The preparatory enabling works package commenced in January but works ceased temporarily due to Level 5 restrictions on construction. The works include an interpretive museum, m
