The Murphy administration’s push to transition medium- and heavy-duty trucks to zero-emission vehicles, a proposal crucial to achieving its ambitious goal to reduce climate-warming pollution, won strong support Thursday from clean-energy advocates and surprisingly, little opposition from critics.
The state Department of Environmental Protection’s proposal aims to shift thousands of trucks from delivery vans to long-haul tractor trailers away from using fossil fuels to electric power, a policy that could put a huge dent in the amount of global-warming pollution contributed by the transportation sector.

DEAL, N.J. (AP) â New Jersey s wide, sandy beaches have been paid for by taxpayers across the U.S., from wheat farmers in Kansas to fishermen in Alaska.
But for decades, local governments in some Jersey Shore towns â and elsewhere around the country â have used a variety of tactics to keep outsiders off their sand.
STOCKBRIDGE â An overnight fire destroyed eight buildings at Camp Mah-Kee-Nac, a private boys camp on Stockbridge Bowl.
There were no injuries among the four camp staffers who were evacuated from the scene and relocated to a local hotel, said Stockbridge Fire Chief Vincent Garofoli. One firefighter was treated and released for a minor injury.
A dozen agencies provided mutual aid to Stockbridge firefighters, Garofoli told The Eagle on Friday morning at the scene.
The fire was reported by passersby and a camp staffer shortly after midnight Friday, and it was declared fully under control by 3 a.m., the chief said. Mop-up operations continued until dawn.
