Echoing a similar beach access controversy that’s still unresolved, a proposal by the Borough of Deal to sell a quarter-acre lot to an adjacent property owner for $1 million has drawn objections from the state Department of Environmental Protection and waterfront activists who say the proposal violates rules governing public access to the sand and surf.
Otisco Lake Yields Another Near-World Record Muskie
Ice fishing seems to be hitting its stride all across New York. And no spot is currently hotter than Otisco Lake, especially when it comes to trophy muskies.
Last week Joshua Stratmann of Greece, N.Y. brought home a tiger muskie following a twenty-five minute fight. The whale measured forty-five and 3/4 inches long and weighed twenty-four pounds seven ounces. While it s longer than the world record for a muskie caught on a tip-up, it falls about three pounds short.
NYup.com now reports an even bigger one was caught on the lake this past weekend. Walter Kemblowski of Marietta landed one weighing twenty-six pounds 10oz, it was forty-seven inches long. Again close to the record but just short, by about 11 ounces.

The emissions and safety inspection ensures motor vehicles operating in Massachusetts are safe, properly maintained, and not emitting excess air pollutants in our communities, which will improve air quality for us all, said MassDEP Commissioner Martin Suuberg. MassDEP, along with our program partners, encourages Massachusetts residents to renew their stickers to ensure that their vehicle emission systems are inspected yearly.
When the COVID-19 pandemic struck last year, some extensions were granted to annual inspection stickers expiring between March and May of 2020, but those extensions have expired and officials said Wednesday that no further extensions are planned. There are 1,800 local inspection stations in the state.

Punjab’s capital is struggling with another season of hazardous air quality. Despite measures by the provincial administration, parts of Lahore remain engulfed in a thick blanket of smog.
According to IQAir, a portal that provides a real-time pollution map, the average daily air quality in parts of Punjab’s capital hovered between unhealthy and very unhealthy over the past week.
