Town officials announced the news early Friday night.
“I’ll breathe a little sigh of relief here,” said acting Town Administrator Robert Rooney.
What caused the contamination is still under investigation, Rooney said.
A statement from the Natick Public Works department assured residents the water is safe to drink, and no further treatment or flushing in homes and businesses is necessary,
The contamination was discovered Tuesday in routine water samples of the Elm Bank well, and in nine of the 12 sites in the town’s water distribution system. Natick s water is treated before it enters the distribution system.
A boil water order had been in place, required by the state Department of Environmental Protection. Residents were told not to drink tap water without boiling it for at least one minute, or use bottled water.

From state worker furloughs to program cuts, Maui County’s legislators said it’s too early to tell what will happen to the state budget as they wait to see what happens when President-elect Joe Biden takes office on the same day the Legislature opens.
Gov. David Ige released his fiscal 2021-23 budget in December, scaling back both the operating and capital improvements program budgets to make up for the $1.4 billion shortfall expected in each of the next two years. Ige had announced that state employee furloughs would begin with the new year, but after Congress passed a $900 billion relief measure, he pushed them back to at least July 1.

Lax regulation until recently
The action is the latest attempt to curb PFAS in New Jersey, which has some the nation’s highest concentrations of the chemicals because of its long industrial heritage, and until recently, lax regulation. In the last five years, the state has set some of the nation’s strictest health standards for PFOS, PFOA and a related chemical, PFNA (perfluornonanoic acid).
In November last year, the state sued Solvay Specialty Polymers, a Gloucester County chemical company, for allegedly polluting local groundwater with PFNA. In 2019, it issued a directive to that company and four others that it said had contaminated water supplies for years and done little to clean them up.
Brockovich, who was contacted by a resident concerned that the "forever chemicals" poisoning of local water wells wasn't being investigated enough, says "these numbers in Maine are some of the highest we’ve ever seen."
