(The Center Square) â Butler County Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, one of the General Assemblyâs most conservative members with a habit of sponsoring impeachment resolutions, now faces a removal petition of his own.
The Better Path Coalition asked House Speaker Bryan Cutler, R-Lancaster, to remove Metcalfe as majority chairman of the House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee this week over his views on climate change.
âA minimum qualification of the person who wields the most power on climate policy in the legislature is that they accept climate change,â said the coalition in a letter signed by 42 other groups opposed to his chairmanship and delivered to Cutler this week. âMetcalfe is an unabashed climate denier.â
Comments over the planned releases included Hurley Town Board members on Monday, when they described the plan as a return to periods in 2010-2011 and 2011-2012.

âThe entire Esopus Creek becomes uninhabitable,â Councilman Michael Boms said. âIt kills all the fish there. Thereâs a lot of complaints downstream when they do that. . This happened in 2010 and there was a big fight in Ulster County (with) New York City, and New York Cityâs response was âwe donât care.ââ
City spokesman Adam Bosch was not available for an interview to discuss the local concerns, but submitted an email to the Freeman explaining that the releases were based both on heavy rain over the Christmas holiday and the Catskill Aqueduct shutdown for repairs.

SPRINGFIELD As the year comes to an end, environmental and racial justice advocates are sounding the alarm about legislation and regulations that are set to benefit a proposed wood-burning power plant in Springfield.
The energy plant, which developer Palmer Renewable Energy secured a permit for a decade ago, has long been the subject of controversy. Opponents have pointed to research that shows burning “biomass” wood chips or pellets made from trees and cleared brush results in significant greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants harmful to human health. The project is located in Springfield, which the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America has named the asthma capital of the country.
