A Leetsdale copper processing company will spend three years on probation and pay $550,000 in fines for multiple violations of the Clean Water Act and other counts after pleading guilty on Tuesday in federal court.
Hussey Copper, which waived indictment by a grand jury, instead pleaded to the information filed against it on Nov. 30.
The company pleaded before U.S. District Judge William Stickman IV to three counts, including submitting a false discharge monitoring report; discharging a quantity of oil that may be harmful to the environment and failing to make immediate required notification of such oil discharge.

Now, with the legislature overriding Gov. Phil Scottâs veto of the Global Warming Solutions Act, the new Vermont Climate Council is in business. It has eight ex officio members from the current administration, plus 15 citizens chosen by the legislative leadership that engineered the veto override.
Interestingly, three of the four legislative leaders who made those appointments are no longer with us: Lt. Gov. David Zuckerman, defeated 2-1 by Gov. Scott, Sen. Tim Ashe, defeated in the Democratic primary for Lt. Gov., and Speaker Mitzi Johnson. Johnson was defeated in her own legislative district by two Republicans who hammered her for peddling GWSA.

Kathryn Garcia doesn’t really do politics. Before she started running for mayor of New York City, beginning with a Zoom announcement on Thursday, she’d never run for office before. Her only campaign experience was making fundraising calls in 1992 for former Democratic U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold of Wisconsin when she was a college student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Before 2020, her lone campaign contributions were $100 to former Mayor David Dinkins’ unsuccessful 1993 reelection campaign, and $10 to David Waid, an Assembly aide who dropped out of a 2001 City Council race in Brooklyn. And Garcia has only just now joined Twitter, that forum where so much (too much?) political discussion takes place. “I avoided getting a Twitter account for like my entire life because I thought it was a not nice place,” Garcia told City & State. “And I was told I must have one. I still think it’s not a very nice place.”

Superior Court judge dismisses Rittenhouseâs challenge of 2019 mayoral election in Sayreville
SAYREVILLE – A New Jersey Superior Court judge has dismissed a candidate’s verified petition contesting the results of last year’s mayoral election in Sayreville.
The petition from Arthur Rittenhouse, the Republican candidate for mayor in 2019, was dismissed by Superior Court Judge Arthur Bergman on Oct. 26. A subsequent motion from Rittenhouse’s legal team to reconsider was denied by Superior Court Judge Thomas McCloskey on Dec. 4.
Rittenhouse’s legal team filed the petition in late 2019 against Middlesex County Clerk Elaine Flynn; the Middlesex County Board of Elections; an unidentified Middlesex County official who was responsible for part of the election; and Victoria Kilpatrick, the Democratic candidate for mayor.
