Being a major labor exporting country, the Philippines will seek to sustain its contributions in the international movement on migration and development and push for further protection of all Filipino migrant workers in the 13th Summit of the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) to be hosted by the United Arab Emirates from January 18-26, 2021.

Under this year’s theme, “The Future of Human Mobility: Innovative Partnerships for Sustainable Development”, the Team Philippines to be led by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) will chair the roundtable discussions on new technologies to empower migrants as well as on skilling migrants for employment.
The 13th Summit of the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) will be hosted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from January 18 to 26, titled “The Future of Human Mobility: Innovative Partnerships for Sustainable Development.”
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), through Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs Sarah Lou Arriola, will chair the roundtable discussions on leveraging new technologies to empower migrants. The Office of the President, through Chief of Presidential Protocol and Presidential Assistant on Foreign Affairs Robert E.A. Borje, will also lead the discussions of the roundtable on skilling migrants for employment.
The Philippine team will composed by participants from the Department of Labor of Employment (DOLE), Department of Health (DOH), National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA),
The Department of Labor s Employment and Training Administration (ETA) confirmed that the extra $300 federal unemployment supplement will continue for an extra 11 weeks.
CALOOCAN CITY, Dec. 16 (PIA) – The regional office of the Department of Labor & Employment in the National Capital Region in coordination with the City Government of Muntinlupa hired some 177 displaced workers to participate in a clean-up drive at the Laguna de Bay following the onslaught of the recent typhoons.
The workers were employed through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay para sa Displaced/Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) of the DOLE.
Muntinlupa City, which shares a border of the Philippines largest lake, was overcrowded with water lilies and had been preventing the local fishermen residing near the area to earn a living.
According to the DOLE-NCR MUNTAPARLAS Field Office the displaced worker-beneficiaries came from Barangays Putatan and Bayanan and were hired for 14 days at four (4) hours per day beginning November 27, 2020 to clean some parts of the lake.
