New Phuket Provincial Hall to be finished by July
PHUKET: More than six years after the contract was signed to build the B546 million new Phuket Provincial Hall, Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew this morning (Dec 30) announced that the decades-in-coming project is now expected to be finished in July 2021.

Governor Narong made the announcement through a press conference broadcast this morning. Joining him were Phuket Vice Governors Pichet Panapong and Vikrom Jakthee.
Also present were the new Chief of Phuket Cultural Office Chantana Sitthiphan, Department of Fine Arts architect Naruporn Saowanit, Phuket office of Public Works and Town & Country Planning Department (DPT-Phuket) chief Sommit Somboon.

Tuesday marks the second death anniversary of Ekushey Padak winner renowned painter Syed Jahangir, famous for portraying rural environment and diversity of nature through his canvas.
Passed away on December 29, 2018 at the age of 83, the veteran painter was born on November 4, 1935 in Satkhira. The iconic artist devoted over 60 years of his life to painting and achieved national and global fame.
Due to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no people’s gathering except a prayer ceremony arranged by his family members and colleagues, in remembrance of the majestic artist.

Marking the Victory Day, a group of university students in Mymensingh has started a 400km walk to promote production of local fruits.
Under the banner of Falad Bangladesh , a voluntary organisation, eight students of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University in Trishal began the walk, named Brikkha Padojatra on December 16 as part of a social movement, said organisers.
Goutam Kumar Debnath, Mymensingh divisional coordinator of the organisation, said the 400km walk the longest of its kind so far started from the university campus and will end in Khagrachhari on December 31. In this time, the entourage will travel across 24 upazilas in seven districts.

West Philadelphia native Amir Campbell brings life experiences to UD
Amir Campbell did not need a television, computer, smartphone or any other type of device to view the protests following the death of George Floyd in May. He just had to look out the window or step out the door of his West Philadelphia home to see what was happening in his neighborhood.
Although there was not any violence or destructive activity in more than 93% of all the demonstrations between May 24 and Aug. 22, Campbellâs community was subjected to non-peaceful actions and it greatly upset him.
