Look, if before now, you needed any more evidence to accept that Nigeria has lost all pretence to democracy at least under President Muhammadu Buhari’s ruling government, then look no further, yesterday’s arrest of Tanko Yakassai popularly known as Dawisu, who is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Media aide (now sacked by the way) to the Governor of Kano State Abdullahi Ganduje, offers that poignant evidence and reminder.

A Group under the auspices of Coalation of Northern Groups (CNG), has urged Nigerians to reject any plan to incite religious crisis in the country. The National President of the Group, Comrade Balarabe Rufa’I, gave the advice during a press conference held in Kaduna yesterday. Comrade Balarabe Rufa’i said the call became necessary following the recent warning by Department of State Security Services, DSS, that some disgruntled elements are planning to incite religious crisis in some parts of the country. He called on religious and traditional leaders in the country to prevail on their followers in order to achieve everlasting peace and harmonious co-existence in Nigeria .
Despite concerns on recent happenings, stakeholders have expressed optimism on the operation of the South-west Security Initiative, codenamed Amotekun, James Sowole writes
When the six governors of the South-west states conceived the idea of establishing a regional security outfit over one year ago, it was meant to bridge the gap created between them and the security apparatus of the Federal Government.
The governors, who are Chief Security Officers of their respective states, were concerned by their inability to have control over the existing security system despite mounting insecurity in their domains.
They were concerned that due to the fact that all the security agencies, were established by the Federal Government, heads of various agencies in states, have to take instructions in most cases from the centre before responding to calls from their host, chief executives. These often resulted in delays in making quick critical security decisions.
Bishop Matthew Kukah
The Middle Belt Forum has called on the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) and the Muslim Solidarity Forum (MSF) to desist from further attacking Bishop Matthew Kukah of Sokoto Catholic Diocese over his comments on the state of the nation.
The Forum also asked MSF’s Acting Chairman, Prof. Isa Muhammad Maishanu, to withdraw the Forum’s demand for an unreserved apology from Kukah to the entire Muslim Ummah over his recent comments or quietly and quickly leave the Sokoto state.
This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday night by John Haruna, Secretary of the Middle Belt Forum in Kaduna.

Usman Dan Fodio, the great Islamic preacher and founder of the Sokoto Caliphate, proclaims that a society can live with unbelief, but that no society can survive with injustice. This applies to virtually all conflicts in the world; the exceptions will be the few ones triggered by religion extremism and greed. It is this injustice that the Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Matthew Hassan Kukah has spent his entire life fighting. I was not expecting him to keep quiet under a Buhari government, legendary for nepotism, and clannishness; a derelict government incapable of protecting Nigerians. Kukah has not disappointed by persistently telling the truth to the Buhari government. It is heart-wrenching that Muhammadu Buhari, a man elected President of the whole country, turned himself into the President of a section of the country within days of assuming power and runs a government that has shown unparal
