(Photo courtesy of Eastern Star) A rising ecosystem of affordable homes, small businesses and schools is flourishing around Eastern Star Church’s main campus, as the church embarks on its fourth year of a massive quality-of-life initiative in Arlington Woods. But it’s what’s coming next to the neighborhood that has Rena Jackson really excited: a $9 million kids hub, dubbed the ROCK Community Center for Children & Youth, at 5750 E. 30th St. Construction on the center isn’t set to wrap up until next year. But when its doors open, Jackson hopes her granddaughter, whom she is raising, will take advantage of its after-school programs when she gets out of class at the high school across the street.

But various entities across Indianapolis have come together with an affordable housing project to help keep Indy’s teachers in our cities.   What is the Educators Village? The Educators Village is an area with homes focused on providing affordable, safe housing for teachers. It is a model that exists in other cities, and Indiana has a teacher retention problem.  The non-profit organization Near East Area Renewal (NEAR) said it has been revitalizing St. Clair Place for a decade and so far, they’ve rehabbed over a hundred properties.

But April Fools Day can also backfire big time, a recent survey of 1,000 Americans from marketing company Top Data says. According to the survey s findings, about 2% of April Fools pranks end in relationship disaster, with the victim severing all ties to the jokester. While two out of a hundred people, may not sound like much at first glance, that is simply the most extreme reaction; a much bigger number about 24% of respondents said they had a negative reaction to a prank, ranging from get mad but get over it to the aforementioned and drastic terminate friendship.
