COVID-19: Montgomery County public health director Joey Smith optimistic

As pandemic precautions continue to fall away on the local, state and national level, Montgomery County s public health director, Joey Smith, is optimistic the COVID-19 pandemic is moving in the right direction, even if it s still far from gone. I m very hopeful, Smith said in an interview with The Leaf-Chronicle. We ll be living with COVID-19 for a long time. It takes a long time before a virus like this can be eradicated from the Earth. As of April 28, Montgomery County reported 546 active cases on its COVID-19 dashboard. Smith said the county has hovered around 550 cases for about six weeks, adding about 40-50 new cases each day as old cases drop off.

Pritzker Faces Sharp Criticism Over Scathing Report On LaSalle COVID Outbreak

Gov. JB Pritzker is under fire from critics after the administration published a long-awaited report examining what led to the massive COVID-19 outbreak at the LaSalle Veterans Home last fall, which left 36 residents dead. The investigation, which Pritzker ordered a few weeks into the deadly outbreak in November, found systemic organizational problems and failures to communicate in both the LaSalle Home and the state’s Department of Veteran Affairs, which runs the facility and three other veterans homes in Illinois. Read more: Along with inconsistent and confusing COVID protocols that led to lax enforcement among staff, the report also found former agency Director Linda Chapa LaVia “abdicated” her responsibilities to her chief of staff, who in essence performed three jobs. The failure to fill crucial vacant jobs inevitably left the chief of staff and other managers in IDVA and at the LaSalle home “with too many responsibilities to effectively lead.”

Pritzker s report on LaSalle COVID-19 outbreak doesn t tell entire story, senator says

Normal, IL, USA / www.cities929.com Apr 30, 2021 | 1:34 PM (The Center Square) – A report from a Pritkzer administration inspector general on how the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs handled last fall’s COVID-19 outbreak at the LaSalle Veterans’ Home killing 36 people doesn’t tell the whole story, a Republican state senator says. The report from the Illinois Department of Human Services Office of the Inspector General released Friday highlights some of what’s been known: There were lax COVID-19 protocols and other failings. “Once the home had the resources and leadership it needed – first from IDPH, and later from IEMA, the National Guard, and Acting Administrator Anthony Vaughn and Acting Director of Nursing Danielle Vanko – the outbreak was controlled,” the report said.
