Special election early voting starts April 6

Only voters in the village of Burbank and Sugar Creek Township will head to the polls on May 4. Burbank voters will cast ballots at the Canaan Free Will Baptist Church at 12723 Cleveland Road, Creston. Two issues are on the ballot. The first is a five-year, 3-mill levy for parks and recreation expenses. The second is a five-year, 5-mill renewal levy and 2.5-mill increase for police expenses. The village contracts with the Wayne County Sheriff to provide law enforcement services. Sugar Creek Township will open polling stations at the Dalton Presbyterian Church at 163 W. Main St. in Dalton, P. Graham Dunn at 630 Henry St. in Dalton and the Kidron Community Center at 4434 Kidron Road in Kidron.

Concerns emerged regarding unclarified details of the bill and its potentially hefty price tag.     House Bill 2540’s sponsor, Rep. Jennifer Longdon, says spina bifida leads to harmful developmental delays. Including spina bifida on the list of developmental disabilities would make individuals with spina bifida eligible for crucial medical support, she said. Currently, children with spina bifida stop receiving support from the Department of Developmental Disabilities after age six.

Galion gets $100K in state funds By Andrew Carter - acarter@aimmediamidwest.com GALION The City of Galion is the recipient of $100,000 in state funding through the annual capital appropriations bill. Senate Bill 310, which provided federal COVID-19 relief funding to local subdivisions and included capital appropriations, passed by a vote of 29-0 in the Senate and 77-7 in the House, according to records maintained on the General Assembly website. According to a summary published by the Ohio Legislative Service Commission’s Legislative Budget Office, the General Assembly approved a total of $2,129,358,799 in capital funding requests by entities from across Ohio. The $100,000 allocated to Galion through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources will be used for the Galion Park Square Renovation project.
