City officials began Friday to solicit proposals for an affordable housing development coming to Stapleton’s shorefront. Proposals to the city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) for the 108,000-square-foot, city-owned site, which is part of the 35-acre decommissioned Navy base along Front Street, will need to include plans for 100% affordable housing, and be part of the Bay Street Corridor neighborhood plan.

Public Advocate Jumaane Williams revealed Monday that the two worst landlords in the city are still Jason Korn, who amassed an eye-popping 1,822 violations across 10 buildings this year, and the New York City Housing Authority. Korn topped the list as the worst individual landlord in 2019. And NYCHA has earned the dishonorable distinction atop the overall list for three straight years. Williams also for the first time cited Mayor de Blasio’s administration as one of the worst landlords in the city.

And Donovan spoke on the rooftop of Via Verde, a subsidized housing development in the South Bronx, with the Manhattan skyline rising over his shoulder.  But the endorsements that Donovan rolled out on Tuesday told a different story, of somebody whose closest political connections and strongest support aren’t based in New York, but rather Washington D.C., and other cities around the country that Donovan worked with when he was a cabinet secretary in President Barack Obama’s administration

The council approved the Special Flushing Waterfront District, a series of zoning changes that pave the way for a 13-building mixed-use development, which will include more than 1,700 residential units and 879 hotel rooms, along with retail and public space.
