King Harbor Yacht Club hosts Ken Hoover Regatta

King Harbor Yacht Club’s Alex Beggs applied his knowledge of the local waters to claim third place in the Ken Hoover Memorial Youth Regatta over the weekend of May 1. Carly Kieding, from Santa Barbara Yacht Club, took first place, and Kanoa Lee, also from SBYC, took second. Over 40 young sailors took part in the final stop of the Optimist Series. Previous stops were in Santa Barbara, Ventura, Marina Del Rey, Cabrillo Beach, and Morro Bay.

New South Welshman Adrian Walters is confident he can take out the Airlie Beach Race Week with his Rob Shaw 11m Little Nico.
The yachtie was the first to sign up for the Whitsundays Festival of Sailing event but he faces stiff competition with more than 60 competitors quickly following suit from across Queensland, NSW, South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria.
“I’m not surprised we’re first; I like to be organised,” the Middle Harbour Yacht Club sailor said.
“We’re coming back because I had so much fun last time we were there (in 2017).”
“We’ve come off a win at the Sydney Harbour Regatta in March, so we’re going to try to continue our winning streak at Airlie Beach, then Hamilton Island and Magnetic Island Race Weeks.

Adrian Walters was quick on the draw when entries opened for Airlie Beach Race Week 2021; his fun and fast Rob Shaw 11 Metre design, Little Nico, was the first entry received by the Whitsunday Sailing Club (WSC) and other boats that are speedy on the water closely followed suit.
Walters, from NSW commented, I m not surprised we re first; I like to be organised. We re coming back because I had so much fun last time we were there (2017).
The Middle Harbour Yacht Club sailor can credit his boat manager, Mitch White, for being first in. White, who has been around the sailing scene for a long time, has run Little Nico s boat program for years.

With two strong days of racing down in the 2021 J70 Australian Championship, the weather served up testing conditions for the racing crews and Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron race management team on the third and final day.
In what could be deemed the most challenging, yet exciting race of the series, race seven was a battle from start to finish. With the course set at 160 degrees, and the south-easter blowing directly from the club with the outgoing current, the shifts, which came in waves of pressure, were significant.
