While there won’t be parades this year, visitors can still enjoy the floats that have greeted guests for dozens of years at Tulip Time. Todd Weiser with the Tulip Time Steering Committee discusses the famous “Tulip Time” float from PPI.
Tulip Time festivities begin with tonight’s Klompen Classic, and the festival starts Thursday morning in Pella. Cyndi Atkins with the Steering Committee is thankful to all the volunteers who have stepped up to help with some of the modified events this year. Additionally, she’s reminding all residents that street scrubbing will still take place despite the lack of parades, so those with Dutch costumes can gather on Franklin Street and join in the tradition. While there won’t be a parade this year, several floats will be on display during the celebration in the central business district. Todd Weiser with the Tulip Time Steering Committee says there will be volunteers stationed at those floats, with some of the displays also serving as photo opportunities. With additional needs due to Tulip Time during a pandemic, Pella Historical Society and Museums and the Steering Committee are calling out for volunteers and other services.
In addition to wanting residents to help with standing parade floats, spieling tours, and grandstand assistance on May 6th through the 8th, Billie Rhamy with the Tulip Time Steering Committee says they are in need of tractors.
