Lanue for you
Musician Sarah Krueger, self-described as feeling detached from the work of her past, recently recorded a new collection alongside a handful of well-traveled musicians from this region, including Steve Garrington of Low and JT Bates (Pieta Brown, Taylor Swift) and Trampled By Turtles’ Ryan Young. As Lanue, Krueger said she is still writing straightforward and earnest, nostalgic and confessional songs. This self-titled debut is described as a “fresh, creative backdrop.” “Lanue” is available for streaming on March 2. The video “What I Love the Most” was previously released.

February 6, 1996 150 snowmobiles left Thief River Falls and headed for the Beltrami County Fairgrounds as participants in the ISOC 500 cross country race. The sleds are scheduled to leave Bemidji for a return trip to Roseau. Thursdays, now with more Turtles
Trampled By Turtles, which has kept pandemic times interesting with its full-band Zoom songs and streaming shows, kicks off “Trampled By Thursdays,” a four-part concert series recorded at First Avenue in Minneapolis.
Trampled By Turtles performs at Bayfront Festival Park in 2019. The band didn t return for its annual show in 2020, and the popular outdoor venue was quiet for the entire summer. But Roger Reinert of the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center is hoping that 2021 will look different at the bayside space. (File / Duluth News Tribune)
We Three Kings premiere
Clayton Jackson McGhie Memorial presentation of “ … And They Lynched Him on a Tree” by William Grant Still and the world premiere of Rudy Perrault’s “We Three Kings.” I was unfamiliar with this specific work by Still as it is a choral work, but what I learned about it and how significant a work it is makes me want to hear it again and again! I really wish it were performed more regularly.
On the same program was a work by my UMD colleague Jean Perrault. This work is a premiere for the memorial event, the use of extremes and dissonance really captures for me the pain and discord. Thankful music could connect the past and present.
