Trigg fiscal court approves application for hospital funds

“These upgrades probably should have been made a year or two ago,” he said. “We were waiting on equipment to be bought and other things to be done.” A fourth item the court approved at its meeting was for the purchase of wheeled excavator road equipment for the Trigg County Road Department at a cost of $98,891. The excavation equipment is being purchased from Rudd Equipment Co., in Evansville, Ind.

Barnes trial set for December

Woodall scheduled what attorneys said would be a one-day trial for 9 a.m. Dec. 27. Rye had asked for a trial in the fall and said he hated to set a date two days after Christmas. Prosecuting attorney Alex Garcia had no dates open until October, although the judge pointed to possible dates in December. Rye said he and Garcia had spoken and not been able to reach a resolution in the matter. He had earlier requested a continuance and said at that time that he thought the two attorneys could resolve the matter. Barnes, who served as sheriff from his election in 2018 to August 2020, was indicted last fall on charges including one count of tampering with a witness and a second count of unlawful transaction with a minor, third degree.

Trigg sheriff not to be charged in shooting

A grand jury returned no true bills on three charges related to the fatal shooting of a Cadiz man last fall by Trigg County Sheriff Aaron Acree. Special prosecutor Zac Greenwell said the jury meeting on April 14 returned no true bills on charges of wanton murder, second degree manslaughter and on reckless homicide. A no true bill signifies that there is insufficient evidence presented to warrant an indictment. Acree fatally shot Shawn Biby on Oct. 28 after he responded to a Forest Circle residence near Cadiz and became involved in an altercation with Biby. The sheriff discharged his service weapon, striking and fatally wounding Biby. Biby was pronounced dead by Trigg County Coroner John Mark Vinson at Trigg County Hospital. Preliminary results of an autopsy conducted by the Western Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Madisonville showed Biby died of multiple gunshot wounds to the torso.
