Cadiz Man Arrested During Burglary

A Cadiz man was arrested after he was found crawling through a window of a home Sunday morning. Trigg County Sheriff’s deputies say 29-year-old Alonzo Lewis was seen crawling into the home and fled on foot when law enforcement arrived. Lewis allegedly failed to comply with verbal commands and a law enforcement K9 was used to apprehend him. He was taken to Trigg County Hospital with minor injuries due to the dog bite. Deputies say Lewis was found to have meth and synthetic drugs. He is charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police, public intoxication, resisting arrest, second-degree burglary, tampering with physical evidence, possession of meth and synthetic drugs.

Trigg Hospital Board Hears COVID-19 Vaccine And Testing Update

Trigg County Hospital Administrator John Sumner provided an update about COVID-19 vaccines and testing during the board of trustees meeting Thursday. Sumner said they have given out 2,252-first doses and 2,004-second doses of the Moderna vaccine. During the meeting, it was mentioned that the state would no longer be sending out vaccines automatically. Instead vaccines will now have to be requested by each facility. The change comes as fewer people are seeking a vaccine than when they became available for all residents 16 or older. The Moderna vaccine is only approved for those 18 or older, but research is continuing as to whether it’s safe for those 16 and 17.

Alexander said the county has $145,900 left in its equipment account, and given that, he didn’t see any issues with buying the equipment or having any problems with anything else needing to be replaced before the end of the fiscal year. The excavation equipment is being purchased from Rudd Equipment Co., in Evansville, Ind.

Kentucky State Police say a van driven by 64-year-old John Smith was going eastbound in the westbound lanes and narrowly missed colliding with two vehicles before hitting a truck driven by 20-year-old Andrew Amsden of Cadiz. Amsden and a passenger in his vehicle were taken by ambulance to Trigg County Hospital with what authorities say are non-life-threatening injuries. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by the Trigg County Coroner’s Office. The crash happened just before 6 p.m. and led to the westbound lanes being closed for several hours.
