United States and Pakistan host private sector engagement forum in South Punjab
Islamabad, January 27, 2021 (PPI-OT): The United States Mission to Pakistan along with the Punjab Provincial Government opened a three-day private sector forum today to identify opportunities and challenges for commercial and social investments in the region. The forum was organized by the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Punjab Enabling Environment Project (PEEP) through the USAID Lahore Office in collaboration with the South Punjab private sector.
The forum will be focused on four key sectors: agriculture, tourism, textiles, and energy. One of the main topics will be identifying the challenges for growth of the private sector in South Punjab, including market access constraints exacerbated by COVID-19 mobility limitations. Fisherfolks in the coastal areas of the Philippines can look forward to a brighter and safer year ahead with the development of ISDApp – the community app that allows fisherfolks to access useful weather information to help them plan their trips to the sea, even without a smartphone or an internet connection.
Developed by iNON IT Solutions and powered by Globe, ISDApp collects localized weather data, converts it to simplified weather forecasts, and sends it to the registered mobile numbers of fisherfolks via scheduled daily SMS which includes the crucial hours before they go out to sea.
The launch was primarily a joint initiative between the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI) and Globe, with Dr. Mudjekeewis Santos, Scientist IV serving as its focal person. Globe Telecom, Inc., iNON IT Solutions, and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resouces (BFAR) are set to launch this quarter the mobile community application that will allow fisherfolks to have access to useful, timely weather information.
Called ISDApp, the information system was developed by iNON IT Solutions and powered by Globe in partnership with BFAR Region IV-A and the local government of Sariaya in Quezon, which was selected as the pilot community for the project.
