The fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) is also a fight against misinformation. As early as March 2020, MIT Technology Review wrote that Covid-19 is the first true social media “infodemic.” As defined by the Forum on Information and Democracy (FID), infodemic is the overabundance of information some accurate and some not occurring during an epidemic. This makes it hard for people to find trustworthy sources and reliable guidance when they need it. To end the infodemic, the media consumer, journalists, social media platforms and governments would each play a role. FID created a working group on the fight against infodemic and its response to information chaos. EU condemns violence in Afghanistan, Urges Permanent ceasefire

(Last Updated On: December 11, 2020) Delegation of the European Union (EU) to the United Nations strongly condemned the high level of violence in Afghanistan, said the EU statement at the 75th United Nations General Assembly Vote on the General Assembly resolution on Afghanistan. The EU also called for a permanent ceasefire in the country “to save Afghans from the meaningless suffering.” “The EU and its Member States strongly condemn the horrific levels of violence in Afghanistan, which have continued, and in certain aspects even increased, after the Doha Agreement and the beginning of the intra-Afghan direct negotiations,” read the statement. “We call for an immediate, permanent, and comprehensive ceasefire.”
