Government doctors and staff participate in a TB awareness programme held at Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital on Thursday.
A signature campaign was organised here on Thursday as part of TB Awareness Week observed between February 17 and 23.
The event is observed in all 14 TB units in the district
The signature campaign was organised at Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital with the motto ‘Accelerate war against TB’. Dean Revathi Balan inaugurated the campaign. Deputy Director (Tuberculosis) K. Sundaralingam said diabetics, those with hypertension and smokers, who were vulnerable to TB, should go in for X-ray and sputum screening if they had symptoms such as fever and cough for about two weeks and loss of weight.

Goods carrier ferrying people overturns; 30 injured
Five farm workers were killed on the spot and 30 others were injured as the mini goods carrier in which they were travelling to work fell into a channel near Maniyaachi in Thoothukudi district on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as G. Malai Azhagu, 48; M. Petchiammal, 54; V. Gomathi, 65; S. Eswari, 27; and S. Petchiammal, 33, all hailing from Manappadaiveedu near Seevalaperi in Tirunelveli district.
Of the injured, S. Petchiammal, 65; S. Chellathaai, 60; S. Mariammal, 50; M. Lingammal, 30; M. Petchiammal, 30; and M. Viji, 36 all hailing from from Manappadaiveedu were rushed to the Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital after first aid at the Ottapidaaram Government Hospital. The condition of Ms. Viji is said to be critical.

Five agricultural labourers who were going to work in a cargo autorickshaw, were killed in a mishap when the vehicle overturned into a water channel crossing the road near Maniyaachi in Thoothukudi district on Tuesday morning.

Collector V. Vishnu took the COVID-19 vaccine at Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital on Thursday.
As the Collector came to the TVMCH to participate in the inauguration of Regional Cancer Centre, he took Covishield vaccine along with Commissioner of Police, Tirunelveli City, Deepak M. Damor and District Revenue Officer A. Perumal.
In Tenkasi, Collector G.S. Sameeran and Superintendent of Police Suguna Singh took the Covishield vaccine at Tenkasi Government Hospital on Thursday.
In Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital, Collector K. Senthil Raj, Superintendent of Police S. Jayakumar, Sub-Collector, Thoothukudi, Simranjeet Singh, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency, Dhanapathi, Additional Superintendent of Police, Selvan took the Covishield vaccine on Thursdsay.
