Road spikes used to stop car allegedly stolen from Bay

Premium Content Subscriber only A luxury vehicle allegedly stolen from a home in Hervey Bay was brought to an abrupt halt when police deployed road spikes about 3am on Monday. The Mercedes Benz was allegedly stolen from a home in John St, Scarness, before being driven to Halaxton, a suburb of Toowoomba. It was there, at the intersection of Griffith and Hogg streets, that police successfully deployed the road spikes, bringing the car to a stop. A spokesman from the Queensland Police Service said a 25-year-old Oakie man had been charged with burglary and committing an indictable offence, receiving tainted property and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Jack Mckellar, 18, from Oakey, was due to front Ipswich Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning facing one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlicensed and disqualified driving, disobeying a police direction; and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle for committing an indictable offence, armed robbery, deprivation of liberty and serious assault of a person over 60. Police allege McKellar was first seen on Tuesday morning about 10.30am on Haig St, Ipswich, behind the wheel of a car that had been reported stolen from a Raceview address earlier that morning.

Teen allegedly rams police, strikes officer with stolen car

Premium Content Subscriber only AN IPSWICH teenager has been charged after allegedly ramming a police car and striking an officer with a stolen Mercedes-Benz in Toowoomba this morning. Darling Downs detectives have charged the 19-year-old from Goodna with multiple offences. Police were called to a motel on Ruthven St in South Toowoomba just after 6am in response to a disturbance. Officers found a stolen grey Mercedes-Benz GLA250 in the driveway. Police attempted to intercept the vehicle on foot before the man allegedly rammed their marked police car, causing damage to both vehicles. A male officer was allegedly struck by the car as the man attempted to drive off.
