Motorist Paul Rivas, 64, pleaded not guilty to 14 felony allegations, accused of careening into and killing a 77-year-old woman and at least six others during an erratic vehicle rampage Monday in Southeast Portland.

Paul Rivas, a 64-year-old motorist accused of mowing down pedestrians, bicyclists and killing a 77-year-old woman Monday during an erratic 15-block rampage in Southeast Portland, gave detectives bizarre explanations for what occurred when questioned the next day, according to court documents.
Rivas initially claimed his Honda Element was having brake problems and that he was searching for an auto repair shop.

A 77-year-old woman, who had survived cancer and recently been overjoyed at receiving her COVID-19 vaccine, was killed in a hit-and-run in Portland, Oregon.
Jean Gerich was killed on Monday while nine other people were injured as a man plowed into pedestrians and cyclists while driving erratically through the streets of Oregon, police said.
Gerich s family paid tribute to the 77-year-old, calling her a loving mother of two and proud grandmother of five in a statement released by the Portland Police Bureau.
It said: Jean Gerich was not a nameless victim. She was a loving mother of two. She was a proud grandmother of five, ages 4 to 16. She would have turned 78 in twelve days.

PORTLAND, Oregon At least one person is dead and multiple others were injured when a vehicle struck various people Monday afternoon in Portland, Oregon.
In a statement, Portland police said officers responded to a hit-and-run at Southeast 33rd Avenue and Southeast Pine Street. While officers were responding, police said calls came into dispatch regarding an additional hit-and-runs to cars and other pedestrians involving the same suspect vehicle.

A driver who police say hit and killed one person and left five others injured during a series of hit-and-runs in Southeast Portland Monday afternoon was taken into custody thanks to the help of a group of neighbors.
Portland police first received reports of a hit-and-run in the area of Southeast 33rd Avenue and Pine Street, near Laurelhurst Park. As officers responded, police received additional calls about several other crashes involving the same suspect. The final crash was reported on Southeast Stark Street, between 17th and 18th avenues. After that crash, the suspect tried to run.
