Spring Turkey Season Opens This Saturday in New Hampshire News Provided By Share This Article April 29, 2021 Concord, NH – The Granite State’s spring turkey hunt will open this Saturday, May 1 and run through May 31. The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department (NHFG) urges hunters to take advantage of the state’s weather, woodlands, and natural resources this year with hunting safety in mind. NHFG continues to work with many registration locations throughout the state to provide local resources for hunters to register their birds. By examining the carcasses of golden and bald eagles found between 2014 and 2018, scientists were able to determine that the majority of them had exposure to poison. That included 96 of 116 bald eagles studied, and 13 of 17 golden eagles. The poison discovered was anticoagulant rodenticide, which is branded in the US as d-Con or Havoc. Consumption of rats, which are of a major source of food for eagles, is believed by researchers to be responsible for the inadvertent ingestion of the rat poison.
