The current five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 10 per cent provincially and 9.2 per cent in Winnipeg. As of 9:30am on January 10, 2021, 151 new cases of the virus have been identified, bringing the total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba to 26,317.
Public health officials advise five additional deaths in people with COVID-19 have been reported today including:
a female in her 70s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to an outbreak at the Southeast Personal Care Home;
a female in her 80s from the Winnipeg health region,
a female in her 80s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to an outbreak at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg;

The number of daily COVID-19 cases announced in Manitoba went up again on Friday, after days of case counts that hovered below 200. That update came shortly after the province announced current public health orders will be extended until Jan. 22.

Chief provincial public health officer Dr. Brent Roussin announced Friday the province s code red restrictions will be extended for another two weeks.

But hockey fans can take heart; a new exception means the Winnipeg Jets and all professional hockey teams can play in Manitoba, and professional athletes and affiliated officials don t have to self-isolate.
The announcement came just prior to the expiration of the current health order at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, and as case counts creep up after the holidays. They re now in effect until Jan. 22.

Outbreaks at two Manitoban care homes are being declared over.

While there may be some tweaks to existing health orders when the current set expires on Jan. 8, do not expect a drastic change in them.
This was the message from Dr. Jazz Atwal, the acting deputy chief provincial public health officer during the province’s COVID-19 update on Thursday.

Despite a drop in cases and the rollout of a vaccine over the last couple of weeks, Atwal said there are many indicators they are looking at as they make their decisions.
