JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. Coronavirus vaccines will be available at Winn-Dixie grocery stores in Florida beginning next week.
Southeastern Grocers, Inc., the parent company and home of BI-LO, Fresco y Más, Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie grocery stores will be administering doses of the Moderna vaccine.
The program will be in partnership with the Florida Department of Health U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Approximately 8,100 doses of the vaccine will be sent to stores across Florida.
Jacksonville officials will open a COVID-19 vaccination site in the city’s Northside for just two days Friday and Saturday to administer shots to 975 people, Mayor Lenny Curry said Thursday.
The pop-up vaccination site at the Clanzel Brown Senior Center, 4575 Moncrief Road, will operate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day for people 65 or older, frontline medical personnel and first responders.
“If and when more vaccines become available, we will be ready to open additional sites in other areas of the community,” Curry said.
Unlike other vaccination sites, no appointments will be scheduled, but Curry said some seniors can be given vouchers to return later in the day to minimize the time spent waiting in long lines.

The grant program aids nonprofit organizations working toward racial equity and social justice, and addresses racial disparities in education, food insecurity and health care.
Through March 2, customers at all of the grocer’s Bi-Lo, Fresco y Más, Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie stores can make donations to the program.
