However, the racial breakdown for those receiving the shots says the race is unknown for nearly 18 percent of them, making it difficult to make comparisons.

The Ledger names Leon Tucker as executive editor The Ledger newsroom, Gannett officials announced Wednesday. Leon Tucker was named executive editor, the first Black person to hold that position in the newspaper’s 97-year history. Leon is coming home, said Cindy McCurry-Ross, Gannett Florida Editor, noting that Tucker grew up in St. Petersburg and spent much of his early career at Florida papers. Leon is overjoyed to be returning to public service journalism. She described him as a collaborator with a diplomatic approach. Tucker is a 1998 graduate of Florida A&M University, from which he earned a bachelor’s degree in newspaper journalism. While at FAMU, he won the prestigious William Randolph Hearst Award for breaking news for a college newspaper reporter, one of only six awarded in the country annually.

Walmart and Sam s Club pharmacies in Florida to receive COVID vaccine next week Nikki Ross, The Daytona Beach News-Journal Vaccine distribution effort to pharmacies ramping up Replay Video UP NEXT Florida Walmarts and Sam s Clubs will begin accepting and administering federal allocations of COVID-19 vaccines next week through their pharmacies, according to a Walmart press release Tuesday.  The vaccines will be available at these pharmacies thanks to the U.S. Federal Retail Pharmacy Program, a collaboration between the federal government, states and territories, and 21 national pharmacy partners and independent pharmacy networks to increase access to COVID-19 vaccination across the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Walmart is proud to be selected by both CDC and state governments based on a number of factors, including our ability to reach specific populations that are at risk of experiencing severe illness from COVID-19, the release said. Ninety percent of the country lives within 10 miles of a Walmart, and we can make a real difference in our communities by partnering with state and local governments to improve access to the vaccine. Pharmacies in 22 states giving vaccine Walmart and Sam s Club pharmacies in 22 states have been selected, according to the Walmart release. Individual pharmacies by state were not released as of Wednesday morning.
