Crime by Ben Graham  Just days before the horrific death of a Queensland mother-of-three, the family of the man accused of killing her made a strange plea for help. Kelly Wilkinson s burned body was discovered early on Tuesday morning in the backyard of her home in Arundel on the Gold Coast. Officers went to the Spikes Court property at 6:40am after neighbours reported hearing screams and the sound of an explosion. That man has now been confirmed to be 27-year-old Ms Wilkinson s estranged partner Brian Johnston, 35, who was found two blocks away from her on a front lawn in a semiconscious state shortly after officers arrived at the scene.
NEIGHBOURS rushed to Kelly Wilkinson s home after seeing flames shooting up over the fence. When they got there they allegedly saw blood on the rear patio and the young mother up against the fence motionless and well alight about 6.40am on Tuesday. Police also found what appeared to be a melted red plastic jerry can, three knives and duct tape in the backyard of Ms Wilkinson s Spikes Court, Arundel home. Kelly Wilkinson. Picture Facebook A blood trail was found leading away from the property to a nearby Langer Place home where her estranged partner, former US Marine Brian Earl Johnston was found, it is alleged.

A shell-shocked neighbour of the woman allegedly set alight by her ex-husband has revealed the harrowing moment he found her body - and her three children crying on the front driveway.
The neighbour, who would only give his first name Benny , said Kelly Wilkinson s alleged attacker, an ex-U.S. army marine who is now in hospital under police guard, had previously described his fear of being kicked out of Australia.
