A motorist has been charged five months after a ladder fell from his uteâs tray on the Pacific Motorway, allegedly causing the death of a motorcyclist who tried to avoid it.

The 53-year-old man who was riding the motorbike when the ladder fell on the motorway on November 2 last year in Nerang was struck by another vehicle and died at the scene.

Tracey Anne Smith, formerly of Smith Legal Solutions, faced Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday for one count of fraud more than $30,000. It will be alleged the 49-year-old took more than $64,000 the client had put in the firm s trust account between May 31 and December 19, 2017.

Police update 1: Fatal traffic incident, Nerang
A man has been charged following a fatal traffic crash on the Pacific Motorway in Nerang last year.
On November 2 a 53-year-old motorcyclist was killed after taking evasive action to avoid a ladder which fell from a trailer.
As a result, the motorcyclist was struck by a vehicle and sustained fatal injuries.
The driver of the ute, a 40-year-old Burleigh Heads man, was yesterday charged with one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death.
He was issued a Notice to Appear and is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on May 5.

The 40-year-old was driving his ute and trailer on the Pacific Motorway on the morning on November 2 at Nerang on the Gold Coast when the crash occurred.
