AmeriCorps Maker Fellow: SOUTHWESTERN OHIO COUNCIL FOR HIGHER EDUCATION

The Makers + Mentors Network (MMN), a STEM initiative of Citizen Schools, is partnering with community colleges, nonprofits, school districts, and minority serving institutions to run the Maker Fellows program. This position is located in Dayton, OH and is hosted by Southwestern Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE). SOCHE engage collaborates with higher education institutions, industry, and community partners to provide critical maker-centered career exploration opportunities for K12 students to prepare them to successfully transition from high school to the workforce, military, or advance education programs. These opportunities include multiple in school, after school and experiential learning engagements.

Tammy Kernodle, professor of musicology, and David Berg, professor of biology and professor of biological sciences, have been awarded the title of University Distinguished Professor by Miami University's board of trustees, effective July 1.
Established by the trustees in 1981 to attract and retain eminent professors, the title includes an annual stipend for conducting research and other professional activities.
University Distinguished Professors have national and international stature with demonstrated recognition and projected high level of scholarly productivity in the future. They must be a teacher of demonstrated excellence and a contributor to the life and mission of Miami University.

CINCINNATI â Nancy Elcho of Mount Lookout has been eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine since Jan. 19, but as of Thursday, she still had not.
That's because, like some other seniors across Ohio, the 94-year-old cannot leave her house to go get the vaccine, her son and caretaker, John, told WCPO.

PREBLE COUNTY — The OH•Zone Virtual Career Fair set for Tuesday, Feb. 2, will offer area job seekers in Preble and Darke counties the chance to explore many local job openings, safely, from the comfort of their own homes.
Organizers hope this first Virtual Career Fair will provide new opportunities for unemployed, or underemployed, residents, providing a chance for them to interview for in-demand jobs across the area. Over 250 job openings will be represented during the virtual event.
The free online event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday and will feature at least 20 companies from Preble and Darke counties. It is made possible thanks to OhioMeansJobs Preble County, and OhioMeansJobs Darke County, the Preble County Development Partnership, Dayton Development Coalition, and the Southwestern Ohio Council for Higher Education.
