SBC seminary helps Dwight McKissic after home suffers damage

The help came in the wake of McKissic s recent decision to end his longtime relationship with the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention after leaders adopted a “strongly worded, anti-CRT policy that denounces all aspects of critical race theory.” The disagreement also prompted McKissic to declare that he was even willing to cut ties with the SBC as well if the denomination s leaders rescind Resolution 9 on critical race theory that messengers passed in 2019.

Washington will join a diverse group of community leaders representing communities of all shapes and sizes, said Wild, who also serves as mayor of Westland. He was appointed to fill a vacancy on the 19-member board with his term expiring in fall 2022. With Washington’s appointment, the league board will now have 10 elected officials serving alongside nine municipal managers. “We are extremely pleased to have Mark join us as we work to help our communities recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and reform our state’s broken system for funding its municipalities,” Wild said. “With Mark’s appointment, our board will continue to have representatives from some of our state’s largest cities working side-by-side with officials from some of our smallest communities.

The future seemed very unclear, and darkness attempted to fill my spirit. Yet, those months of suffering became the source of the greatest revival of my Christian life. I discovered that where great sorrow lives, God’s amazing grace also abides.  God met me at the point of my pain, revived my spirit, and thrust me into a harvest that I never dreamed possible. And I’m convinced that what transpired in my life is possible on a macro scale around the world. 

Dwight McKissic receives letter disparaging blacks in SBC

Dwight McKissic of Arlington speaks in the chapel at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. | SWBTS / Margie Dolch, File Outspoken African American Southern Baptist Convention Pastor Dwight McKissic, who threatened to leave the SBC over a dispute about critical race theory, recently received a letter that disparaged blacks and urged the convention to “bid them goodbye and good riddance!” The letter in question was authored by John V. Rutledge, an author who is no longer part of the SBC. The controversial document was sent last Monday and addressed to McKissic, who pastors Cornerstone Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas.
