(WMC) - The coronavirus vaccine site in Whitehaven at Southwest Tennessee Community College opens Feb. 5. Shelby Co. Health Dept. opens Whitehaven vaccine site (Source: SCHD) Shelby County Health Department Director Dr. Alisa Haushalter said she wants local hospitals to be part of the public vaccine rollout. Haushalter said the first step is figuring out how to get hospitals more of the county’s weekly allocation of 11,900 doses. She’ll meet with hospital administrators about that Friday. Haushalter said, “We have to get those doses widely distributed and we the health department can’t be the primary provider of the vaccine. We want it to be like the flu vaccine where you can get it at the pharmacy or hospital.”

Appointments can be made now for COVID-19 vaccinations to be administered this week in Whitehaven. The Shelby County Health Department (SCHD) is partnering with Southwest Tennessee Community College (SWTCC),to begin offering first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine at the Whitehaven Center at 1234 Finley Drive on Friday, February 5. Pfizer first dose vaccines will be offered on both a drive-thru and walk-in basis, by appointment only each Tuesday – Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. through February 27, for those currently eligible to be vaccinated.

(WMC) - The Shelby County Health Department announced Thursday a new partnership that will make vaccines available to more Memphians. “Our focus is on equity and access and for that reason, we are looking at special population groups including poverty, those who are homeless, those with special developmental different kinds of needs,” said Dr. Judy Martin with the Shelby County Health Department. The partnership between the Shelby County Health Department and Southwest Tennessee Community College will make it easier for marginalized groups to get vaccinated.

Shelton Added to 2021 Trappers

Pierre, SD, USA / DRGNews Jan 20, 2021 9:30 AM PIERRE – Pitcher Jared Shelton has been added to the 2021 Pierre Trappers roster.  Shelton is a sophomore at the University of the Cumberlands in Kentucky.  Last season, the righthander pitched at Southwest Tennessee Community College and was 0-1 in four appearances with a 5.40 ERA.  He struck out five in five innings.  Shelton was a high school standout in Collierville, Tennessee, a suburb of Memphis.
