Like us on Facebook.   BENNINGTON — A community fund drive will be conducted in February with the goal of raising $500,000 to assist in planning and implementing reuse and redevelopment efforts for the former Southern Vermont College campus and its buildings. David Newell, a member of the college’s board of trustees prior to its closure in 2019, and Michael McKenna, of D.B. McKenna & Co. financial advisors, proposed the idea to Southwestern Vermont Health Care, which acquired the campus through a bankruptcy auction in December. The SVHC Foundation, which raises money for the nonprofit health care organization, will oversee the fund drive and collect donations for an account designated toward long-term campus planning and development work.

Vermont Veterans Home resident hospitalized with COVID-19

Don t miss the big stories. Like us on Facebook.   BENNINGTON — A second resident of the Vermont Veterans’ Home has tested positive for COVID-19 and is hospitalized at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. Melissa Jackson, the facility’s CEO, said Friday the infection was confirmed through a standard PCR test this week. She said she could not provide a report on the veteran’s condition because of patient privacy restrictions. Jackson had announced on Wednesday that another resident who was diagnosed with the disease in early January had died. That infection was revealed through regular testing after a half dozen staff members at the Veterans Home tested positive for COVID-19 in late December and two more tested positive shortly afterward.
