St Theresa Middle School announces Students of the Year

Staff Report Giana Acosta was selected as the fifth grade Student of the Year, and Audrey Lanoux was selected as the eighth grade Student of the Year at St. Theresa Middle School. Acosta has maintained a 4.0 GPA, is part of the St. Theresa Middle cheer squad, a member of Junior Catholic Daughters of America No. 1955, and has participated in 4H. She is involved in many service and volunteer projects in the school and community such as recycling, baking cookies for the local fire department, and donating to the less fortunate. Through Wiggles & Wags, she has had an opportunity to contribute her own money and blankets for the animals. She has been honored on her school s principal s list, as well as received the highest Scholastic Awards each semester at St. Theresa Middle. Acosta was selected for an interview to compete at the Diocesan level. Gertrude Hardisty WOODBURY – Gertrude Hardisty, of Woodbury, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021, surrounded by her family. She was the widow of Chester C. Hardisty. Gert was born in Waterbury, Conn., Nov. 15, 1929, daughter of the late Henry and Katherine (Conley) Cassidy. She was a graduate of Staatsburg High School in Staatsburg, N.Y. She grew up in a tight-knit family whose lives were deeply affected by the depression, the tragic deaths of their father and two spouses just as brothers were called overseas to serve in World War II, leaving mother and daughters to share financial and child rearing chores. Luckily, Gert liked to work and she was a quick study. As one of the 30-some employees at The Old Hundred, a wonderful ice-cream making plant started by neighbor Sam Green, she met Chet Hardisty, whom she married in 1953. They made their home in Woodbury and Gert started working at The Curtis House, alongside her husband and mother-in-law who owned the historic inn. She would work

Individual or family-style takeout meals can be picked up from 2 to 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Christmas Day. The holiday menu includes kiawe-roasted ham, green bean casserole and candied Molokai sweet potatoes, as well as a family-style honey-baked ham and kiawe chicken dinner with fixings. There’s also a hula pie that serves between eight to 16 people.
