Anger as trees felled for Crowmarsh Gifford four-bed house plans

A PARISH council has objected to plans for a four-bedroom house after it claims developers felled ‘mature trees’ without a licence. Plans for a four-bedroom ‘family’ home, on the triangular portion of land south of the CALA Homes Carmel Meadows development in Crowmarsh Gifford near Wallingford, is currently in the consultation period. On the South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) planning applications website it reveals plans submitted by Fair Life Development Ltd to build an additional family home; however, it has objections and concerns from both Crowmarsh Parish Council and the County Archaeological Services. The target decision date for the planning application is June 2, but trees in the area neighbouring the Carmel Meadows development have already been felled.

Old hotel exterior repairs proposed

Old hotel exterior repairs proposed );   ); THE new owner of the former Red Lion Hotel in Henley wants to carry out repairs to the exterior of the historic building. Grace Leo has applied for planning permission and listed building consent to give the west elevation of the Red Lion Stables a traditional three-coat lime render. She says this is needed to stabilise and improve the appearance of the elevation, which has fallen into “considerable disrepair” over the years. Redundant surface wiring and plumbing would also be removed where possible. The courtyard surface would be repaired and the outdoor dining area repaved.

Judge rejects second legal challenge to housing plan

Judge rejects second legal challenge to housing plan );   ); A LEGAL challenge to South Oxfordshire District Council’s local plan has been refused for a second time. Bioabundance, a community interest company, claims the document contradicts the Government’s climate change targets. In March, High Court judge Mr Justice Dove rejected its application for a judicial review. Now the firm has lost an appeal against that decision. Mrs Justice Lang described the case as “unarguable”. The document sets out the district’s housing needs for the next 15 years but Bioabundance claimed councillors were pressured into adopting it in December.

Restaurant in bid to allow dining on deck outdoors in evening );   ); THE owners of a riverside restaurant in Henley want to be able to serve food to customers outside. Shaun and Gemma Dickens, who own Bistro at the Boathouse in Station Road, are already permitted to serve drinks on the decking between 6pm and 9pm. Now they want to serve food between those times as well, saying this would attract customers and help them recover from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. But residents of neighbouring Boathouse Reach have objected, saying they would be affected by the additional noise.

Evicted peacocks found new home

Evicted peacocks found new home );   ); WILD peacocks which prompted noise complaints are to be moved from their home in Woodcote to the Fawley Hill estate. Some of the 17 or so birds have been ordered off woodland near Beech Lane by South Oxfordshire District Council after it received letters from four neighbours who said their mating cries were keeping them awake. The decision sparked protest from scores of villagers who said the peacocks had lived in the area for decades and were popular but the authority insisted it had to act. It was initially unclear where the creatures would go but this week Lady McAlpine, who lives at Fawley Hill, offered to let them join the 40 or so already living on the estate.
