District council appoints new chair

District council appoints new chair  ); Jo Robb has taken on the role with David Turner selected as vice chairman.  She was appointed at the annual meeting yesterday (20) at the council offices in Milton Park, Abingdon.    Councillor Robb, who represents Woodcote and Rotherfield for the Green Party, said: “It is a great honour to have been elected chair by my peers on South Oxfordshire District Council. “I’d like to thank David Bretherton for his steadfast chairmanship over the past two years. “He has steered the council through a very challenging period with professionalism, good humour and grace. “I am looking forward to the next twelve months and to meeting as many residents and community groups as possible and celebrating the remarkable generosity and dedication of our communities and volunteers here in South Oxfordshire.” 

Royal British Legion marks 100th anniversary in Dorchester

Members of the Royal British Legion s Oxfordshire County committee attended the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the charity. A dedication was given by the Reverend Rachel Carnegie of Dorchester Abbey in South Oxfordshire and Dorchester branch chair, Chris Hill, led the commemoration with Andy Pay as standard bearer. A wreath was laid by Charlotte Bennett, the branch secretary. County committee members Pete Eldridge, county chair, Fiona Lovesey, county vice-chair and Rob Lovesey, county recruitment, attended the centenary event. Although 2021 is the 100th anniversary, many branches throughout the UK are struggling to stay open as Royal British Membership is falling due to the age demographic of many of its members. Branches across the country are looking for anyone to become members and they also welcome people who do not have a military background.
