Flagg, far from official business, written by the Flagg’s son, James Smith Flagg at age 2 in 1916. EDWARDSVILLE A new exhibit, “Ink to Paper: Exploring the Advancement of Letter Writing and its Uses,” has opened at the Madison County Archival Library at 801 N. Main St., Edwardsville. In the exhibit, David Thompson explores the lost art of letter writing. The exhibit looks at the instruments used to write them, the varies types of letters, and even the stamps that were used to send letters. Many items in the exhibit come from the recently donated Flagg Collection.

Bezhanova earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Department of Hispanic Studies at McGill University in Montreal, and a doctorate from the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Yale University. In 2009, she joined the SIUE faculty to teach Spanish language and literature courses. Bezhanova speaks English, Russian, Ukrainian, Spanish and French.

EAWR principal honored for work Dylan Suttles, dylan.suttles@thetelegraph.com FacebookTwitterEmail Robinson WOOD RIVER Leigh Robinson, principal of East Alton-Wood River High School, has been named the Southwest Division Secondary Principal of the Year for the Illinois Principals Association. “Initially I was shocked because I didn’t know I was nominated for the award,” Robinson said. “After the shock I was very thankful.” Robinson is a 1995 graduate of Eastern Illinois University who received her master’s degree in Educational Administration from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2001. While earning her master’s degree, she started at EAWR as a business education teacher, a position she held from 1995 to 2003. She then served as EAWR Assistant Principal from 2003 to 2009, becoming principal in 2009.

12/13/2020 5:50:22 AM William James “Jim” Rohe, 75, of Bethalto, entered his eternal rest on Friday, December 11, 2020 at 2:10 am, at his residence, under the care of Hospice of Southern Illinois. Jim was born on September 17, 1945 in Ottawa, IL, the son of William Henry and Martha Ann (Rippey) Rohe. He graduated from Ottawa High School class of 1963. He then attended Concordia Teachers College in River Forest Illinois, where he met the love of his life, Linda. Jim taught on a 1 year internship before his graduation at Trinity Lutheran School in Fremont, Nebraska. He married Linda Lee Dyroff in Cahokia, IL, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church on July 5, 1969. They were blessed with 51 lovely years of marriage.
