SOUTHERN ILLINOIS (KFVS) - Work on a strategic plan for the Southern Illinois University System continues with an invitation for public comment on drafts of a mission statement, vision statement and key themes.
SIU System President Dan Mahony said a systemwide strategic planning committee has surveyed alumni, faculty, staff, students and others to get feedback on topics included in the plan.

A look at Sheridan’s city drinking water will kick off the Sheridan College Museum of Discovery’s first science lecture for this spring.
The online presentation will start at 7 p.m. next Wednesday and will be presented by Matt Enger, U.S. Forest Service hydrologist, and Jon Warder, U.S. Forest Service forest fire management officer for the Bighorn National Forest.
Focus of the lecture will be the Sheridan Municipal Water Shed, including its source, threats and proposed actions on the Bighorn National Forest.
According to managers from the Sheridan Area Water Supply Joint Powers Board and the Wyoming Water Development Office, the Sheridan municipal watershed, which is sourced almost entirely from lands managed by the Bighorn National Forest, is at risk.

Mahony previously taught a similar class at University of Louisville as an assistant professor and at Kansas State as a dean, but co-instructed the course after he moved to Winthrop and joined the SIU system.Â
Â
âThis past semester, I actually taught a class that was in the Honors Program that was for both Carbondale and Edwardsville students with Dr. Bobbi Knapp here, she was my co-instructor. So Dr. Hughes will be the third co-instructor Iâve had in this class, and so Iâve been teaching the class for a while,â Mahony said. âThe addition of a co-instructor always adds something different, and each one of them brings something different to the class, so Iâm excited to work with Dean Hughes.â
