Baylor’s robust Olympic history isn’t limited to a celebrated list of student-athletes who have made their alma mater proud for more than a century. There’s also at least one Baylor professor who can claim to have competed as one of the world’s best.
Dr. Alex Yokochi came to Baylor in 2017 as a professor of mechanical engineering, and now teaches, mentors and conducts solar and renewable energy research. But if you had met Yokochi when he was the same age as his students, you’d very likely have found him in the swimming pool and perhaps have watched him compete on the world stage.

Judging from news stories over the past few years, I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s nothing left of our post-revolution educational system within a decade or less.
For a very long time, “learning” involved the study and memorization of objective information.
Alternately, school developed one’s skill at analysis and applying calculations to data.
By contrast the best I can tell classrooms’ contemporarily proposed function is to teach students
what to believe.
Furthermore, social advocacy and engineering’s found the forefront, while classically academic pursuits where extinction’s concerned are licking the dodo bird’s heels.

(The Center Square) – Mask wearing may be the norm on Illinois college campuses this fall if a recent survey holds true.
Intelligent.com asked 2,000 current and incoming college students their plans, and despite a majority being vaccinated, 63% said they would voluntarily wear masks in certain settings even if schools aren’t requiring them. Intelligent.com contributor Beata Williams said that was a surprising turnaround.
“Last year and even in the spring academic year, students seemed a little more resistant to wearing masks,” Williams said.
College students are not as divided as the nation has been this past year and a half. Students in COVID-19 hotspots that are typically more anti-vaccine and mask reported that there were nearly as likely to take precautions on campus this fall as those in more vaccinated areas.
